News: 🥐 Capital Food Market will Open Tomorrow
The newly constructed Capital Food Market which replaced the old Belconnen Fresh Food Markets is opening this Wednesday. The 40 traders will gradually open over the coming months but a number of existing favourites will be trading at launch.
The newly constructed market was delayed due to the collapse of a PBS Building and Covid. Details here.
News: 🛴 Drunk Driver Detection Coming to Scooters
Beam, the Purple e-scooter company in Canberra will be introducing a cognitive test for alcohol for the upcoming Summernats festival. The ‘rider check’ requires the user to tap through a series of screens to determine if they are sober enough to ride. This year in January, Beam banned 72 riders over the Summernats weekend for anti-social and dangerous behaviour using the scooters. An update to the scooter’s electronics will also prevent the user doing burnouts.
News: ACT Cabinet Reshuffle
Chief Minister Andrew Barr has reshuffled his cabinet. Chris Steel will now be the planning (previously Mick Gentleman) and transport minister. Rachel Stephen-Smith remains health minister but will add disability to her portfolio.
No one was demoted to the backbench and no one was promoted.
A new cost-of-living sub-committee is also being created. More.
