Turkish Pide House in Macquarie was shut down by ACT Health after reports that 22 people became ill after visiting the restaurant. One person was hospitalised. People reported getting sick on or before the 9th of October. ACT inspected the business on the 12th of October and subsequently issued a prohibition order. The business must remain closed until it passes a further ACT health inspection. As of the 30th of November, the business has remained closed.
The Gold Creek Country Club plans to redevelop a part of its golf course into hundreds of homes. The plans include building around 700 build-to-rent homes. If the development application is successful, construction will begin in 2026. Details here.
There was a house fire in Kambah yesterday afternoon. Fire crews were called to a house on Marconi Crescent at 4:15pm. The property had been searched twice, and no people were found inside. A dog was rescued. The cause has yet to be determined, and the residents were not at home when the fire started.
The future Acton Waterfront will be known as Ngamawari (pronounced 'nar-mar-wa-ree). Ngamawari means 'cave place' in Ngunnawal language and recognises the cultural significance of the limestone caves that were flooded during the creation of Lake Burley Griffin. The name was gifted in a ceremony with local Ngunnawal representatives. More.
