Just a few years ago, Canberra’s live music scene looked dismal. But over the last couple of years, live music has exploded in Canberra, with new live music venues opening and existing places now more popular than ever before.

Sideway
The intimate bar upstairs in the Sydney Building regularly hosts local and touring bands with a diverse music program. Sideway was opened in 2018 and inspired by the listening bars of Japan and the great clubs of Europe. Sideway is casual and fun and one of Canberra's best places to listen to live music.
Fun Time Pony
Canberra’s latest addition to the live music scene is Fun Time Pony. Fun Time Pony is a grungy underground bar serving up late-night pizza and a stacked live music program from touring artists.
Smith’s Alternative
Smith’s Alternative has a grungy boho vibe and has been in Canberra for over 30 years. It started as a bookshop and has evolved into one of Canberra’s most popular live music and performing arts venues. Smith’s Alternative has a diverse music program that spans all genres.
The Baso
The Baso is one of Canberra’s premier live music venues. It’s located in Belconnen and hosts a diverse lineup of touring acts. There are pinball machines, pool tables and 3 bars.
Gang Gang
Tucked away in the quiet suburb of Downer is Gang Gang. Gang Gang regularly transforms from a quiet cafe into one of Canberra’s best live music venues.
Molly
Molly is a speakeasy bar hidden away in Odgers Lane in the city. They have live Jazz music multiple nights each week. Molly is small and intimate and the perfect place to enjoy the excellent jazz bands they book. Look for the wooden door and head upstairs.
