The Embassy Apartments Deakin

A development application to build 50 apartments in Deakin has been lodged. The Embassy development is on the site of the recently closed Margaret Dimoff Art Gallery.

This is not the first proposal for the site. A previous plan to build an aged care facility was strongly opposed by Deakin residents. In 2022 the current developer also lodged a proposal for a 5 story serviced-apartment building with commercial space but this was rejected by the National Capital Design Review Panel due to below ground commercial space and lack of natural light.

The building will have 53 large apartments with three and four bedrooms. There will be 134 car spaces with most having EV charging. There will be just 3 commercial spaces.

The building will be right next to the proposed light-rail line.

You can view the development application here.
