What is this page?

This page shares details of an event which was posted on Facebook, sent to me via email, or where the organisation doesn’t have a website.

Many Canberra Digest readers are cutting down on social media. Because some events live only on Facebook and other walled gardens ☹️, people can’t always view the details without an account. When possible, I publish the key info here so it’s accessible to everyone ☺️.

You can still click through to the original event page, when available, if you prefer to use that platform.

Anthony

P.S. If you have an event coming up and would like a page like this to share with others, just email me the details and I’ll put it online.

National Diabetes Week

Thank you to Diabetes Australia for sharing the following:

This National Diabetes Week, we’re putting prevention front and centre. This year’s theme is bold for a reason—because while diabetes continues to rise, so much of its impact is preventable.

Australia has made strong progress in the prevention of diseases like breast cancer and melanoma, yet diabetes has not received the same national focus, despite its growing impact on individuals, families, and communities. We are determined to change that.

Whether it’s preventing type 2 diabetes or preventing complications for people living with all types of diabetes, it's not ‘one-size-fits-all’. Each person’s journey is unique. Unfortunately, there’s still a lot of confusion and misinformation about diabetes, and this can make life harder for people living with all types of diabetes.

However, with better understanding and support, we can create a healthier future – for everyone.

What You Can Do This Week

We're encouraging all Australians to check in with their health by:

For People Living with Diabetes

We’re highlighting how small steps can make a big difference:

  • For those with type 1 diabetes, National Diabetes Week is a powerful reminder to complete your annual cycle of care, and an opportunity to add your voice to our campaign for fairer, more affordable access to insulin pump therapy by using the hashtags #NationalDiabetesWeek #NDW on social media.

  • For those with type 2 diabetes, we’ve teamed up with GroAus to offer a FREE six-month trial of their leading diabetes support app – to help Australians feel more confident in managing their diabetes and reduce the risk of complications.
